sometimes the most simple looking sites are in fact the most complex.

i’m very pleased to have (mostly) completed the development for couchprojects.com, a site for a collections of books, video, research and installation work by Angie Waller, based on Angie’s original design and concept.

for easy backend administration we chose to work with Wordpress and while there were a ton of great functions built-in that made development save time, conceptually we were doing things that required a lot of original code (whose logic is still blowing my mind).

tag-based, transparent-category navigation with related tags that remember where you’re coming from, what you’ve clicked on, how you got there and what’s related to your personal click-trail…

developing this project was a lot of fun. check it out!

Be Kind Rewind exhibition

last week i had a pretty hilarious experience at Michel Gondry’s Be Kind Rewind exhibition at the Deitch gallery here in NYC. it’s free and open to the public and if you’re in the neighborhood definitely check it out. Gondry seems to be there all the time too. of course i haven’t seen the movie yet…Gondry has recreated the video store in the gallery, complete with a back lot containing a variety of movie sets where visitors can make their own renditions of films. All videos created during the exhibition can be viewed in the gallery.

reconnecting & rethinking independence

a lot’s been happening lately, both positive and not so much… on the positive end, i recently reconnected with a filmmaker friend from gradschool who called me in to help him light a small shoot he was doing, and i have to say that doing so was simply wonderful. the whole experience was an affirmation of the perspective i’ve taken on filmmaking lately and a further reaffirmation that making films is still a form of art. the most interesting part is that we’ve both come to this same conclusion.

2008 - new design, new server

so it’s a new year and generally that means a new look for 36invisible.com websites and this year is no different.

not only have we upgraded the design and functionality of 36invisible sites (this news site/blog included), but we’ve also moved all of our domains over to our new home at svaha.

because of the move and because of insanely technological coding details i don’t want to go into yet, a couple of things on the main 36invisible site are still unfinished. ~~the number one issue is, well… your browser’s back and reload buttons won’t work as expected (on the main site only) since i’ve wrapped the entire site in AJAX for navigational deliciousness.~~ i’ll fix this as soon as possible.

also, if you experience any other problems with this site or the main site, please post them here and i’ll fix them as they come in. i’m guessing that some links are probably broken… thanks in advance for anything you find.

anyway, happy 2008 and stay tuned for more updates and news.

just launched another site i’m proud to have coded for a fantastic group of individuals (most of which i went to undergraduate school with).

Svaha LLC provides hosting, consulting and design services for artists, small businesses and non-profit community organizations.

once again i found myself using lots of AJAX and this time have found a new tool that i’m absolutely nuts about now: MODx, which is quite possibly the most incredible CMS/PHP framework for coders who like to get their hands dirty.

added another short video montage (montage 02) to the main site.

this montage has a running time of 2 minutes, 6 seconds and contains clips from troll bridge, you are being lied to, signal-to-noise, 4am friday, and red letters

still finding it difficult to cut down a larger reel into smaller chunks, but figured the more available content i put up, the better.

like the other clips on this site, quicktime 7+ and javascript enabled are required. the content should load in an overlay of the page and not open up a new window or take you away from the current page.

Red Letters, IFCT followup and coverage

i was just contact by the IFCT and was told that the RED LETTERS screening this past weekend in Jacksonville was a big success!

i’m really glad to hear it and only wish that i had been able to make it down to Jacksonville to help support this excellent independent festival and the incredible filmmakers who screened at it.

equally exciting is the fact that the festival received a large amount of press coverage and clips from RED LETTERS even made it into an AT&T Tech Channel spot called “Ready for the Weekend with Emma Wilson”. Check it out!
